“How to clean my fur coat” seems to be a common question asked by many who own them – and for good reason. Cleaning a fur coat is not easy and there are many risks involved when cleaning them yourself. The best way to clean your fur coats is to take them to a professional dry cleaner. However, if you want to try and maintain them as best as you can before visiting your dry cleaners, here are a few tips:
- Always hang your furs – Furs are very easy to warp and bend. Just dropping it on the couch after a long day at work will ruin your furs. Always try to hang them as soon as you take them off.
- Use broad hangers – For the same reasons above, furs will lose their shape if hanged improperly.
- Shake your furs – Before stepping into your apartment or home, shake your fur coat to remove any dust or dirt that may have settled into your furs. If conditions do not allow you to do so outside your home, dry to do it in an area that is easy to sweep and clean up.
- Use a specialized fur brush – Using your hair brush will damage the skin of your furs. Always use a wide-toothed brush specialized for use on furs to gently brush the hairs of your furs. If you do not have one, use your fingers. Remember to always brush gently.
When it comes to cleaning stains off your furs, there are many solutions online such as using isopropyl alcohol and a wet cloth, etc. However, due to the high possibility of things going wrong, we highly recommend taking your furs to a professional dry cleaner. Not only can they handle your expensive fur coats, but they can also preserve them so the natural oils in your furs will stay intact.
Take your fur coats to a professional dry cleaner if you want them to last for generations.
